Skamania County spans a distance of 1,672 square miles on the north shore
of
the Columbia River in the southwestern part of Washington State.
A substantial part of Skamania County is
in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
The
county contains portions of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and the Mount Saint Helens
National Volcanic Monument.
Skamania County is bisected north and south by the
Cascade Mountains.
The major driving route through Skamania
County is State Highway 14, which
leads west to the metropolitan areas
of Vancouver, WA and Portland,
OR. Both cities can be reached in under an hour's drive, allowing
Skamania County residents access to the best of both rural and urban
lifestyles.
Skamania County enjoys a mild but variable
climate with rainfall and
temperature figures growing drier and warmer as one travels from west
to east.
